Sometimes you just have to sit down and address the craziness of the world around you. First, we are blessed to have all the entertainment and culture we can handle on a daily basis, much of which can be found on the Internet. Second, we are often perplexed by those very things that are supposed to be culturally elevated when we see how dumb they can be.
One of the better websites for a collection of a links is the Instapundit blog, written by University of Tennessee Law Professor, Glenn Reynolds. Today, Reynolds linked to a Huffington Post article by Barbara Holm, a comedian. This particular essay is titled, Sexism Against Men? I Wish.
Holm has a story to tell about being an MC to an all male audience where she was hit on pretty hard. Some of the men in the audience thought hitting on a young comedian was cool. If they scored, it would be even better. She cried. That’s understandable but from there she poses the idea that it is impossible to be sexist to a male.
Sexism (definition):
2. The belief that one gender is superior to the other, especially that men are superior to women.
Although sexism is a term usually reserved for women to use against men, it is also defined as applying to men. Women can obviously be sexist with relation to men, although the opposite is supposed to be the norm.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
Notice that there are no directional arrows in the definition. Discrimination works in all directions, between all races. If you are white and make a trip to Mexico, you will find that you are discriminated against in many ways. I understand that the Japanese are among the most racist people in the world. Ditto for the Chinese. Racism knows no season or bounds.
