Take The Long View

relief of Roman Soldires
Roman Soldiers conquered the civilized world.

Just like Obama said, whenever conservatives get upset, we cling to our guns and our God. It seems like the natural thing to do.

Since I believe in God, I have to cling to Him in good times and bad, praising him. There is nothing contradictory about that. It just underlines the severity of the difference in what the American people believe, and the actions and beliefs of our government.

It is interesting to think about how Jesus viewed the oppression of the Romans in His time. The Romans did not hesitate to tax their subjects. Plus, they would take what they wanted, counting that theft as spoils due to the victor. When asked a loaded question about the Roman government’s policy of taxing, Jesus basically pointed out that their nation had agreed to subjugation to the Romans, and could not refuse to give to the Romans that which they demanded. In Mark 12:17, Jesus said, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that as a mandate, the health care law would be unconstitutional. However, when viewed as a tax, it is acceptable under the Constitution. In plain language we have surrendered our wealth to the whims of a government by allowing them to levy taxes. Therefore, any tax we see now is justified under that principle.

We have made our beds, now we must lie in them.

Our salvation from this problem lies within ourselves. All we have to do is to vote the oppressors out of office.

In the short term we have a problem. In the long term, we can solve the problem.

Obama Care For Everybody

OK. I am going to tell you a couple of things you might not know. With the Affordable Care Act, there are lots of things we don’t know, and will not know until it is too late.

The Supreme Court made a big issue of the penalty tax in Obamacare for people who choose to NOT buy insurance. Out of 21,000,000 uninsured, there are bound to be people who will make that choice since paying the penalty tax is cheaper than the insurance. It’s a no brainer.

But, let’s take the case that there special classes of people who don’t want or need the health coverage. Just because they choose to not buy insurance doesn’t mean that they will have the penalty.

Keith Hennessey has written an article addressing this very thing. Please read his article for a better understanding.

Certain special people have waivers written in the law, and approved by Barack Obama.

  1. Illegal Aliens will not have to pay a penalty tax for not buying insurance.(do they get it for free?)
  2. Prisoners will not have to pay the penalty. (do they get it for free?)
  3. You are poor. (see reference for just who is considered poor)
  4. You are a member of an Indian tribe.
  5. You are not insured, and will not be for less than three months.
  6. Your religion does not buy into modern medicine or health insurance.
  7. You are in a labor Union that has a waiver from the HHS.

Now, all these waivers take in a lot of people. After the dust settles, there will be several million people still not insured.

One of my questions is, who gets their healthcare for free?

Any ideas?

Supreme Court Double Talk

Government Wins – Country Loses

We should have known. The long awaited Supreme Court came in today with a ruling, which in my opinion, is a bit on the contradictory side.

First of all, the so-called Affordable Health Care Act  is not constitutional as a mandate, which it is. Secondly, it is constitutional if it is a tax, which it is. Wow! It is two, two, two laws in one. Apparently the government can pick and choose its own definition, and win any case it wants by simply pretending.

The whole thing is double talk.  Apparently, the US Congress can pass laws that tax our pants off, but they cannot pass a law telling us what to buy. This still does not change the fact that we will be forced to buy the insurance whether the government calls it a tax or not.

So, want started out as a horse suddenly takes on a unicorn appearance. The law is all things to all people, constitutional or not.

The big lesson is to trust no branch of government.

They are all out to screw it up.

D-Day Remembrance

Thousands of American Soldiers Are Buried At Normandy

Today is June 6, 2012. Sixty eight years ago , over 6,000 American soldiers became casualties at Normandy, and about 2,500 of those died. That’s a lot of soldiers, but that is not the whole story.  About 3,000 other Allied troops died that day. They were from England and Canada.

Around 19,000 French civilians were killed in the bombardments leading up to and during the Normandy invasion. The Germans lost around 80,000 soldiers. Casualties are usually lighter on the winners side, but the blood shed for the future generations of Europeans, Englishmen, Canadians, and Americans was very high. I believe we improved the future for the German people, too.

Today is a day to be remembered. It was the beginning of the end of Nazi Germany, one of the most egregious and cruel regimes in modern times. Their legacy was genocide, and we can never forget.

Even today, there are entire nations and religions that deny the evils perpetuated by the Nazi’s. Islamic leaders in Iran deny the holocaust because they hate Jews. Indeed, they are dedicated to finishing the extinction of the Jewish people. How others overlook this documented goal of an entire nation is a sign of danger in itself.

Today, we are faced with some of the same choices that the German people faced. Do we move our government into a socialist entity like Nazi Germany (National Socialism), or do we strive to keep free markets and free people as our goals. Do we rob ourselves of free speech by instituting a fairness doctrine, or do we insist on our sacred rights of being able to say anything about anything?

Our choices diminish daily with the arrogance and ignorance exhibited by our leadership in Washington, DC. We need to make the choice for freedom, now, or we will learn the meaning of the words written by Frederich Hayek:

Perhaps the fact that we have seen millions voting themselves into complete dependence on a tyrant has made our generation understand that to choose one’s government is not necessarily to secure freedom.

Honor freedom and make your choice for freedom while you have the chance. Maybe we will not have to fight another World War II to get it back if we pay attention, now.

The New Retirement System

Reporting on a Gallup poll, today, is an article that posits the new ideal retirement age is 67. This poll reflects the opinions of over a thousand people. Those opinions of the right age to retire have changed over the last several years, with the expected retirement age going up, and up.

We have been brainwashed that 65 is the age to retire. We also find that corporations tend to get rid of older, higher paid workers. My experience is such that I was laid off at age 57 from a sales job, and when looking for work discovered that nobody is going to hire a grey-headed salesman. The only sales positions available are those that pay commission, only, and are primarily low-income, telephone based sales positions.

At some point, you will find yourself taking Social Security payments. Social Security is nothing more than extended unemployment income for someone over the age of 62..

The government is pushing the Social Security retirement age past 65, and workers are being forced out of jobs at age 60 or before. A large part of the unemployed in the US is that population of pre-retirement age adults that cannot get a job. These are the people who have given up seeking employment.

Maybe you think that our drift into a socialism will mitigate the problem with the government taking care of you.

Think, again.

The government is looking harder and harder at the wealth accumulated in 401K’s and IRA’s. The government has long wanted to take that money and give it to those who have failed to plan for their retirement. They think you are more fortunate than others, and you should share. That is the government mentality.

So, all that hard work with accumulating money for your retirement can be gone in an instant. Your job can disappear in an instant, and so can your wealth.

The new American retirement system is called, unemployed. Good luck with that.

We The People

Congratulations to the Obama Administration for implementing an internet service to allow US citizens to present petitions to the White House. This is a first, and I hope people will use the system responsibility and keep the Government  UFO coverup and space alien stuff to a minimum. Yes, these people are still with us.

In my last blog post I excoriated the White House for running a blog and not turning on the comments for people to reply to the propaganda generated there. While on the White House site, I found the We The People section. To the defense of my last blog, the petitioning process is not exactly like being able to comment to a blog article.

Since the Anthrax scare, US Mail to the Government has been discouraged. I don’t believe sending an email gets the job done, either with the recipients sending automatic replies and answers formulated by staff assistants. There aren’t many ways to make your voice heard by the White House, but the petitioning process is a good start.

The petitioning system is limited by the number of subjects you can address, plus you have to register for an account on Whitehouse.gov. Some people will shy away from putting their name on a White House list.

This is the way the system works.

  1. Register for an account to either create a petition or sign a petition.
  2. Create your petition, or sign a petition.
  3. Collect 150 signatures in 30 days. Otherwise, your petition is dead.
  4. Collect 25,000 signatures in the next 30 days and your petition will be reviewed by White House staff, and forwarded to the appropriate federal bureau.

It’s easy, and all you have to do is give your name. Good luck on that.
