Democrats Assault First Amendment In Party Platform 3

Sometimes you just have to take a breath, step back, and look at what is really going on.

What is going on is that the Democrat Party are showing their true colors, and it is not pretty. Thanks to PowerLine blog, quoting the Daily Caller:

Democratic operatives responsible for creating their party’s platform this year have unanimously adopted a provision calling for the Department of Justice to investigate companies who disagree with Democrats on global warming science.

Currently, there is an assault by Democrat Attorneys General from several states on fossil fuel companies to see if they have misled consumers on the dangers of climate change. This whole thing is a fishing expedition mounted to achieve political gain. The effort has nothing to do with science, and never has. It is all about money and control.

Recently, ExxonMobile has refused to cooperate with subpoenas to deliver fifteen years of records and emails to these attorney generals. The reason is clear. Even corporations have the right of free speech. What is becoming clear is that these attorneys general have colluded with private advocacy groups and other liberal organizations to squelch the very successful resistance against ridiculous climate change programs espoused by President Obama.

It’s all about politics and money.

It is very interesting but heavy handed environmental government mandates is one of the reasons the Brits have voted to leave the European Union.

Free speech is under assault by the Democrat Party, and their target is whoever disagrees with Democrats.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Our Potemkin President 3

Obama_pic_135hEverybody should be familiar with the Russian concept of a Potemkin Village. As the story goes, Grigory Potemkin, a favorite lover of the Russian Empress Catherine The Great, fabricated card-board villages to impress the Empress as she traveled to the Crimea along the Dnieper River. He wanted her to think he was doing a great job in administering the territory. Since then, the concept of Potemkin Villages is used to describe phenomenal hoaxes.

Right now, our President is posing for pictures at the death scene of at least eighty poor souls at Bataclan, a Paris theater where the worst of the terrorist attacks occurred. People lay on the floor for up to fifteen minutes as the terrorists blazed away. Not only is President Obama posing for pictures at these sites, he says nothing about the danger and sacrifice ordinary citizens face everyday.  The danger is being minimized by our President.

President Obama doesn’t see Iran as a threat. Instead, his recent agreement gives Iran the certainty of a removal of economic sanctions with the twin-certainties of a huge influx of cash and a date-certain for the creation of the Islam Bomb. Now, Iran has it all and President Obama has ignored that threat. We will pay, someday.

President Obama ignores the global threat Islamic terrorism. It is inconceivable that anyone can dismiss this world-wide threat. Is this another ploy to buy some ethnic minority votes? If so it says a lot about the character of our President as he lives in a make-believe world, ignoring the real problems.

President Obama is now pretending that climate change is a threat. There is no science or economics that support that idea. There are just a few debunked and poorly structured studies that try to show that ninety-seven percent of scientists agree on climate change.

We have a Potemkin President. Not only are his causes and policies a hoax, but they are a danger to the American people, and by extension, to the world at large.

Any bets on Vladimir Putin’s next move that flummoxes our President? Don’t worry, Obama won’t even know what hit him.

Seven Years Down The Drain 8

I will never forget the first time I saw John Belushi in the National Lampoon movie, Animal House. Millions of American men connected with characters in that movie. One of the most memorable quotes is when John Belushi’s character, Bluto disconsolately uttered those famous seven words, “Seven years of college down the drain“.

In the last seven years our economy, our foreign relations, our national security, and our national pride have been going down the drain.

The Obama White House has been performing like some college social club that concentrates on the partying and relative social positioning, rather than serious issues. It is as if Delta House has come alive, and Joe Biden has taken on the role of Bluto, and President Obama has taken the role of Otter, the smooth upper-classman who was screwing everything in site. They only thing the White House is serious about is political power, not economic or national security.

To make matters worse, the White House has bought into the genocidal goals of the climate change crazies. These guys are off the deep end. Such disreputable scientists as Paul Ehrlich and Dr John Holdren, the President’s personal science advisor, are paraded front and center. These are the crazies who jointly advocate population control. That plan includes genocide. Obama seems to like their ideas.

As a consequence of their ignorance, the world is starting to crumble as Islamic terrorists have their sway, bombing passenger airplanes from the air, and beheading Christians with impunity. Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, is asserting his influence in the middle-east while Obama is retreating. The Iranians have found a way to construct their much desired nuclear weapons because of a desperate agreement our President wanted for his legacy.

Seven years ago, the US Government started a review process to determine whether Canadian Keystone XL pipeline should be built across portions of the United States to help Canada export some of their oil. The US State Department was involved because the situation involved relations with a foreign country.

During the following seven years, the Environmental Protection Agency, and every other concerned government agency could find no fault or problem with the project. It was obvious from the outset that the whole project was political, especially when there was NO science that showed any harm or danger to the public, or to public lands.

So, what stand does our mighty and super-intelligent President take? Our playboy President announced today that the Keystone XL pipeline project would not be approved.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

The tragedy of the Keystone XL pipeline saga is that politics have triumphed over science, economics. and common sense. There is no rational argument that one can launch justifying the cancellation of this project. Much needed jobs would have resulted, and the available of more oil would have contributed to a long term stabilization of the world oil markets.

In case you are thinking that the carbon emissions from this project would have contributed to some sort of world-wide catastrophe, you are wrong. There is no science that shows that carbon dioxide is anything more than a moderate greenhouse gas. Indeed, CO2 is necessary for life and the production of the very oxygen we breathe. CO2 is plant food, and  as every high-school biology student learns, is called photosynthesis. Carbon dioxide is life!

For seven years this administration has had the Keystone XL pipeline decision before them. For seven years the administration has been trying to find a way to mitigate the political blowback from their mindless opposition. Now that national elections are looming, Obama had to move. He is counting on the idea that the electorate will forget his insanity of cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline in time to keep the Democrat Party from being erased from electoral politics for generations to come.

Seven years of no gain. Seven years of virtual recession. Seven years of kissing up to terrorists.

Seven years down the drain.

Another EPA Dirty Secret: Agency’s hushed-up human experiments debunk ozone health claims 4

EPA skulduggery. Nothing legitimate about the EPA’s claims.

JunkScience.com

EPA has proposed to tighten its standards for ozone in outdoor air. However, ozone in outdoor air, especially at current levels, doesn’t hurt anyone and the EPA knows it… but EPA doesn’t want you to know it. Here is a short exposé based on EPA documents obtained via the Freedom of Information Act.

The Cleansing of Lennart Bengtsson 3

Highly respected scientist resigns the Global Warming Policy foundation. Dr Bengtson joined the conservative, skeptical GWPF just two weeks ago, and has been subsequently harassed by climate change alarmists to the point that he has now resigned. Is this indicative of a larger trend going on in our society as in well-known conservatives being turned down by students at certain colleges?

The following article has been re-blogged from Climate Audit.

Climate Audit

Recently, Lennart Bengtsson undertook a positive dialogue with climate skeptics by joining the advisory board of the Global Warming Policy Foundation, an organization that attempts to represent rational skepticism.

Instead of welcoming this initiative, the climate “community” has now cleansed Lennart Bengtsson by pressuring him to resign from the GWPF advisory board. Bengtsson’s discouraging resignation is at Klimaz Weibel here (h/t Bishop Hill).

I have been put under such an enormous group pressure in recent days from all over the world that has become virtually unbearable to me. If this is going to continue I will be unable to conduct my normal work and will even start to worry about my health and safety. I see therefore no other way out therefore than resigning from GWPF. I had not expecting such an enormous world-wide pressure put at me from a community that I have been close to all my active…

Zombie Science 4

It is amazing how the political radicals of this world have come to control the narrative of science. For example, the personal adviser to the President of The United States, Dr. John Holdren, claims loudly that increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is causing more severe droughts, hurricanes, and other forms of extreme weather. This is in spite of most of the world’s scientists believing otherwise, and there being no empirical data to support this fiction.

According to Dr Roger Pielke, Jr of the University of Colorado, Holdren is pushing ZOMBIE SCIENCE! In his blog post, Dr Pielke used passages from the IPCC AR5 report on the state of the climate to support the claim of  Holdren’s lack of knowledge.

Pielke goes on to say, “There is really not much more to be said here — the data says what it says, and what it says is so unavoidably obvious that the IPCC has recognized it in its consensus. “.

The following charts are a sampling of NOAA information illustrating the real data (evidence) of extreme weather. There are no trends to even suggest that more tornadoes, hurricanes, forest fires, drought, or floods are linked to carbon dioxide fueled global warming. Any other interpretation of the data is brain dead, and is not part of the climate change consensus.

Our Goldilocks World 5

You know how it is sometimes fun to sit around and Google things that just pop into your mind? Well, I was doing that tonight while pondering the world around us. I was thinking about trees and plants, and how they figure into our environment. The process I looked up was photosynthesis.

We would not have oxygen to breathe if it were not for carbon dioxide (CO2) and plant life.

6H2O + 6CO2 ———-> C6H12O6+ 6O
Six molecules of water plus six molecules of CO2 makes one sugar molecule and six oxygen molecules.

This is what happens. Plants get their water from the ground through the root system, and they suck in carbon dioxide gas (CO2) from the atmosphere. That’s when the fun starts.

Sunlight is the energy that drives the whole process. When sunlight strikes a leaf of a plant, energy is absorbed. Some sunlight causes heat, and the rest causes chemical reactions between the CO2 and other stuff in the plants. Oxygen is split from the carbon dioxide and water (H2O), and sugar and enzymes result growing the plant.

If it were not for CO2 we would not have trees, plant life, food, or oxygen. It gets that simple.

Global warming is blamed on CO2. There is only a small bit of truth to this in that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and greenhouse gases cause the earth to keep warm enough to support life, but not too warm. CO2 is not the driving gas in the process. The real driver is water vapor, by far the strongest greenhouse gas in the atmosphere.

Photosynthesis is yet another process that can be called a Goldilocks process. It takes in carbon dioxide (CO2), and produces food and oxygen, all necessary for life.

Our earth is just far enough from the sun to keep it warm within a livable range. We live on a water planet where the climate is pretty much automatically maintained by clouds, water vapor, water vaporization and condensation, and the associated heat engines.

When things heat up, clouds form, rain happens, and things cool down. That’s one of the mechanism that keeps the world from getting too hot. Greenhouse gases keep the world from getting too cold for life.

Food and water are plentiful almost everywhere because of the natural processes.

What more can one ask? We do live in a Goldilocks world. It is almost like things were planned that way. Our Goldilocks world is just right.

Note: Yes, I noticed in the chemical equation that the Oxygen molecules did not balance. I did a cut and paste from some web page, and am now paying for my own inattention. I think that the six oxygen molecules should be molecules made up of 2 oxygen molecules. Oxygen does that, you know. I just don’t know how to do a subscript in WordPress.

Carbon Taxes Or Trading – What Do You Know 2

We have all read about carbon taxes and other malicious fees that our EPA is preparing for the American public. Just how many people in the US know anything about it?

Why should there be a carbon tax? What is it supposed to accomplish? Will carbon taxes halt climate change? Are there other alternatives to handling risks attributed to climate change?

Fortunately for us, we have a guinea pig in the form of the entire country of Australia which foolishly established a carbon tax. We have the figures estimated by world-class economists and climate scientists on the effectiveness of a carbon tax in combating carbon dioxide induced climate change.

A young Australian named Topher Field recently volunteered to produce and direct several YouTube videos explaining carbon taxes and climate change for lay persons. He financed this endeavor with contributions from climate skeptics from all over the world. This is, indeed, a grass-roots effort.

Take a look at the video and decide for yourself. The bottom line is that it costs fifty times more to try to squelch carbon emissions than just adapting to possible damage.

My New Math Career 1

Yes, I did it. Even though I am officially retired, I have started college almost all over, again. Well, not exactly all over. I do have a couple of college degrees, and I wanted to take a couple of math courses at a local university.

Part of the entrance requirements is that I had to enter a degree program, no matter how many degrees I already have. So, I signed up to be a mathematics major just to take a course in Linear Algebra. You see, I have a latent interest in things statistical, although I have not harbored any ambition to be a statistician. However, after starting this particular gambit I just may become one.

Most people think math is infinitely boring, and I thought so when as an undergraduate I did the minimum work to get passing grades. Now, I know better. Mathematics is important because we live in a world of numbers. If you really want to be smart, you need to understand numbers.

We see mathematics being applied all around us everyday. When you read a news article about a new study, the authors of that study depended on some math magic to get their numbers to work out so they can continue to get government grants. Government grants are academic welfare. Somebody has to fund all those stories claiming to show that watching Fox News can turn you into a Republican.

I have started looking into some of these studies, and you don’t have to be a mathematician to see that some basic assumptions are BS. Indeed, many times the arithmetic is done correctly, but the assumptions are all wrong. There was one psychological study, recently, that proposed that people who didn’t totally buy into catastrophic climate change also believed that the NASA moon shot never happened, and was filmed in movie studios on earth. This particularly idiotic study was dubbed the “Moon Hoax Study”.

Maybe with my new math skills, I can do some studies and make some of that government money, too. All I have to do is make up some stuff, and then throw in some impressive statistical math for looks. Maybe I will be published by Rolling Stone magazine.

Nate Silver – Lost In The Noise Reply

The book is, “The Signal And The Noise: Why Some Predictions Fail – And Some Don’t”, by Nate Silver. This book is about the art and science of forecasting, and how some predictions are fairly accurate, and some are not. Being a self-proclaimed statistician and economist, Nate Silver has been a successful predictor in baseball, political elections, and on-line poker. Just winning in poker is impressive to me, but Silver managed to put his expertise into computer programs, and that’s where he makes his money, now.

The first part of the book is filled with stories of his salad days in the poker business, and how when the field got over run with players, he found it tougher to earn money. He has been successful in predicting political elections, using his own methodology.

Although being good at mathematical statistics, he comes up short when addressing scientific issues. It is not that Silver is incapable of the science, but he is an economist, and has misinterpreted noise as signal, a common problem that Silver is supposed to be writing about.

Climate Consensus – Silver realizes that the so-called consensus of climate scientists is defined from a very simple statement. I accept the so-called consensus view, and so do most climate skeptics. My cat would accept the consensus view which says,”The greenhouse effect is real. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. Increasing carbon dioxide causes additional warming in the atmosphere, and mankind is the source of some of this carbon dioxide.”  OK. That’s it. Silver recognized this.

Extreme Weather – There is no evidence that accumulating carbon dioxide, or global warming will cause weather to become more extreme. More correctly, the available evidence shoes that global warming DOES NOT cause extreme weather. Period. That is an easy research project, The data is readily available on NOAA web sites. Silver did not do his homework.

Climate Models – Silver argued that climate model predictions are within a reasonable error, and if several are averaged, a more accurate forecast is achieved. Averaging forecasts is a theme that runs throughout other chapters. He argues that averaging several climate forecasts results in more accuracy. I think Silver seriously misreads the science on this one.

Climate models need to be reasonable models that can stand on their own. There are parameters in the model input that need to be realistic, but instead are just assumptions. They have shown over time that assumptions about clouds, aerosols, and sensitivity to carbon dioxide are significantly incorrect.

It is widely agreed among climate scientists (not modelers) that the models are running hot, meaning that their forecasts of global temperatures are out of bounds on the warm side. Silver interviewed Gavin Schmidt, a well know NASA modeler and political activist, but did not investigate the actual record and physics of the models. Schmidt makes his living running models for NASA, and is known to suffer from a political bias in his science. Silver scores a fail on science.

ClimateGate – Nate Silver really struck out on this one. He thinks that Climategate was all about a monthly published global temperature record called HADCRUT. This stands for the Hadley Center in Britain, and the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. Sadly, it is obvious that Silver never researched Climategate, and has totally missed the mark. Climagegate had nothing to do with the global temperature product.

Climategate was all about prominent scientists from the University of East Anglia fudging data; publishing fraudulent academic studies; endeavoring to silence skeptics by controlling the peer review process with well known scientific journals; and illegally conspiring to refuse Freedom Of Information Act petitions for data paid for by the public. These rogue British scientists did so in league with some American scientists, guilty of the same scientific crimes. The most infamous American was Dr Michael Mann of Pennsylvania State University.

Silver defended Mann by saying that Mann had been cleared by a group of his peers. You should remember that academics are rather like cops and doctors. They do not squeal on their  buddies. Penn State actually gave Mann a  whitewash, not an investigation. Not once was a complainant questioned, and the Climategate emails were not introduced into evidence. All this information is available, and Silver believed Mann instead of doing the work necessary to find the truth. Mann is a bad apple.
