Source of Educated Idiots

Many of us have wondered for years how all those idiots in Congress graduated the Ivy League universities on their resumes. You read about Hollywood figures’ idiotic and uneducated opinions who went to Ivy League schools. How does this happen?

Come on, folks. All our lives we have known that wealthy people have not only a leg up in life, but their families make sure their children are part of top tier educational networking groups. They keep it in the family.

The Kennedy’s, with the exception of Teddy, went to Harvard. Al Gore went to Yale, with his roommate being Tommy Lee Jones. The Bushes went to Yale. Not all of these people were idiots, but some stress the boundaries.

I am sure that a lot of the children of the rich and famous are intelligent in their own right. However, it is the Al Gore’s of the world that give education a bad name. Gore’s major talent is using his contacts to make money while he moralizes his way to the bank. His ideas are off the scale with respect to stupidity.

The nation is now in the beginning of the biggest education scandal in history.  Wealthy people have been caught buying their kids higher SAT scores to get them into tier one colleges. For every bogus student like this, a hard working, smart and talented kid is denied access to the educational promised land.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a cum laude (with honors) graduate of Boston University. BU is not exactly a top tier institution, but something similar is going on when someone of AOC’s intellectual shortcomings are cum laude graduates. So many universities have become politically correct baby-sitting operations.

The much vaunted liberal arts degree is no more.  In many schools grades are not given, and kids don’t fail. This is primarily in the humanities. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the poster child for this historical fault in our educational system.

So, there it is. If you are rich enough, or have the right connections, you can get your kid accepted into a top tier institution. If you kid is a dummy that is not problem. Nobody fails once accepted into the college club. Your kid is home free.

Now I understand where all  those idiot celebrities and politicians come from.

Let Ocasio-Cortez Keep Talking

One of the funniest things President Donald Trump said in his speech at CPAC was that we should encourage the Democrats talk more and more about their brilliant Green New Deal. He wants them to keep talking about it because they are digging a huge political hole, and wants them to keep digging.

If Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez keeps talking about the Green New Deal and her spooky ideas, we will be better off. We need to hear more and more about how deprivation and starvation will save our nation.

Here are a few of her solutions.

  • Stop using fossil fuels. Replace them with wind mills and solar cells. Too bad that the wind doesn’t blow all the time, and solar cells don’t work at night.
  • Get rid of energy inefficient automobiles and make everybody take the train. If a train is not available, like to Hawaii, you can walk or ride a bicycle.
  • Automation will displace millions of people from their menial jobs, like the toll takers on the New Jersey Turnpike. They should be happy because they don’t have to work anymore.
  • Give everybody free college, free medical care, guaranteed housing, guaranteed jobs, and guaranteed income. Good intentions for all.
  • Ocasio-Cortez plans to pay for this with new taxes based on the climate-change scare, and higher taxes for corporations and rich people.

Let us not denigrate her intelligence. After all, she graduated college cum laude. I am not sure what that says about Boston University, but it seems impossible that someone could go through four years of higher education and graduate enamored with the failed nineteenth century theory of socialism.

How many people have been raised out of poverty by socialism in the last fifty years? None. As an example, this century Venezueal is mastering the socialist process of starving an entire nation. Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t talk about Venezuela. That’s up to someone that understands the subject.

An article in The Economist relates that Capitalism raised over a billion people out of abject poverty in the twenty years from 1990 to 2010. This equates to 50% of the people in the world who were under that poverty line. Of course, those people are not rich yet, and are still in poverty according to US standards. The point is that there have been huge advances in the condition of people around the world, and capitalism is the driver of this prosperity.

We need to let Ms Ocasio-Cortez speak for the Democrat Party. The more she talks, the less sense the Democrat policies make.

Know When To Walk Away

President Donald Trump

Kenny Rogers gave some good advice in his hit song, “The Gambler”. President Donald Trump risked reputation and political slams from Democrats by meeting with Kim Jong Un, premier of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. If he got a good deal, he would be a hero.  It would be Nobel Prize time for the New York real estate developer. It didn’t happen that way.

Trump went to the negotiating table and wound up walking away. You would think that he would have tried to retreat into the background and wait for this to blow-over, but that’s not his style. The President faced the world in a live press conference almost immediately after the failed negotiations, and answered questions for most of an hour without hesitation, and assisted by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Donald Trump is an unusual president in that in solving problems he likes to engage with the primary parties. That’s how he made his fortunes, and that’s how he is governing. To him, personal trust is part of the foundation of making a good deal. Knowing and understanding the person on the other side of a situation is all important. That’s Trump, and he places great value on relationships.

We need to place these negotiations into a different perspective. This is not a normal diplomatic situation. For decades those efforts failed miserably.  Kim wanted to be on the world stage, and he rattled his nuclear missiles for years to make that dream come true .  Now, it is Trump’s job to make the little tyrant give up his nukes, or suffer deathly consequences.

Are we on the brink of a nuclear war? Not necessarily, but we need to make Kim think we are. To do that Trump has to talk tough, and get really mean on economic sanctions. Trump is no cream-puff like Obama.
